Glogster

Hello everyone!

This week we prepared an online poster using glogster. For this project I worked with Ehtiram Islamov. We were supposed to express our ideas about 21st century communication. Actually we are all familiar to this subject, because all of us are in it. Therefore, it wasn't a difficult project for us. We searched and chose a few images and a video about 21st century communication.

Creating a poster was fun. Reshaping images and making changes on them were enjoyable. So, we enjoyed this assignment.

Here is the poster that we created:

Play with words!

Hello! I am here with a simple project. I said simple, because it was really simple :)

I used wordle.net to create this assignment. I described what I think about digital storytelling with a few words. Each word that I chose says something about digital storytelling:

nice, fun and enjoyable: I created something different and it was nice. I prepared a video for my digital storytelling and I used photos, my own audio recording. It was the first time that I had done something like that and I really enjoyed it.

challenging: Organizing the photos, audio recording and the video was a real challenge.

helpful, useful and improving: Thanks to the digital storytelling assignment, I had a chance to listen to myself and correct my pronunciation.

creative: You should always be creative. In order to create something different and original, you should use your mind.

interesting: Something different!

I played with words and here it is:

Good friends!

Hello everyone! This week I chose the first option as my project: telling what it means to be good friends. Actually, I was supposed to do it last week, but because of the midterm exams I postponed it.

I prepared a video in which there are some photos, music and audio recording of mine. I talked about being good friends and my own best friends.

I really enjoyed this project. Because talking about friendship is always nice. Also, I had a chance to listen to myself and see how I spoke. So, I will use it with my students in the future!

My timeline!

Hello everyone!

This week, we were supposed to choose one of the three assignments and prepare it. I chose preparing a timeline, for I thought it was the most enjoyable one. I chose the most important days of my life to show all of you!

Actually I didn't have any problem while preparing it, because it was easy enough. I really enjoyed it. I have nearly hundreds of photos. I looked at them and picked up a few of them to use in my project. It was like a time travel. I remembered the old good days and felt.. sorry I can't pick up the right word to describe the feeling that I had. But it was definetely good!

Indeed, I liked all the options. I found them useful. Because each of them requires some creativity. That's what we want in our classes in our teaching career. Therefore, in the future, I may use these projects with my students and have them enjoy!

WebQuest

This week, we were supposed to evaluate a webquest. Here is the webquest that I chose.

Overall Visual Appeal
First of all, I will talk about the visuality of the webquest. I think it is colorful. Each part has relevant pictures and it appeals the readers. Therefore, I give 4 points for visuality.

Navigation & Flow
When it comes to navigation & flow, I guess 4 points is appropriate. Because when I read the task and process parts, it was so simple and understandable that I didn’t get lost. All the information related to navigation was clear enough.

Mechanical Aspects
In the webquest there are several links that are related to the topic. I found most of them necessary and there weren’t any problem with them. For instance, in the process part there are a few links that takes you some relevant sites. When you click on ‘prezi’, you directly go to the site, when you click on ‘example’, you go to the site and see the example prepared by the teacher. So, my point is 2.

Motivational Effectiveness of Introduction
I found the introduction part appealing. There is a poem related to the topic. When I was searching for a webquest, I read the poem and I liked it. Then, I decided to choose this webquest. I think, if it were just the introductory text, it wouldn’t be appealing to the readers. Therefore, I give 2 points.

Cognitive Effectiveness of the Introduction
For this part, I definitely give 2 points. Because the introduction part gives clear information about what students will learn with the help of this project. It says “By the end of the Web Quest, you will be a Parts of Speech Pro!”

Connection of Task to Standards
I found the task useful. Students are supposed to review the definitions and explore examples for each part of speech. With the help of this project, they will strengthen their knowledge, so my point is 4.

Cognitive Level of the Task
Actually the task has several parts. Students are supposed to research, to solve pre-test, to make up sentences, to prepare a prezi project and so on. By doing those, they will improve their skills: conducting a research, reading, working in pairs, etc.  I give full points for this part.

Clarity of Process

Each step is clear enough. The teacher explains the process step by step and there is nothing confusing. In the webquest, the teacher makes her explanation simpler by adding some links. Therefore, the students know exactly what to do. I give 4 points.

For scaffolding of process and richness of process parts I give full points. Because I really liked the webquest, especially process part. The teacher explains what she wants in detail. The process is rich, because, as I said before, the task has various parts.

Resources
For the quantity part I give full points. The links, documents are enough. If she gave much more documents or sites to visit, then the students would get lost in conducting the research.
For the quality part I give 2 points. Because some of the information seemed too simple to me.

Clarity of Evaluation Criteria
Criteria for success are clearly stated. The teacher explained what would affect the evaluation process: how well they worked with their partner, how well they used their time, etc. Also, she gave an evaluation rubric. I give full points.

Total score is: 48/50

I found this project enjoyable. At the very beginning, I couldn’t understand what to do, but when I started, evaluating something made me feel good. Also, when I was looking for a webquest, I found some appealing webquests.

I experienced wikiing!

This week, our project was wikiing. We were supposed to create a wiki page and talk about one of our favourite books.

I experienced something new and enjoyable. That was my first wiki page and actually I didn't have any problems. I introduced one of my favourite books and enjoyed it.

I find wikiing useful. Because when my friends are done with their pages, I will look at their blogs and see what they recommend.

In the future, I may want to use wikiing with my students. I believe they will find it useful and enjoyable, too.

An interview about learning languages

Record audio or upload mp3 >>

In this project I worked with Ehtiram Islamov.

While preparing this podcast, we had a few difficulties. First of all, finding a silent place to record ourselves was a bit difficult. Then, when we found an empty classroom, we were interrupted by several people.

However, it was useful. When recording our voice, we had a chance to listen to ourselves and became aware of our pronunciation. We recorded our voice for a few times and each time it got better. Listening to my own voice was good, it made me feel happy.

I think podcasting is a useful way to improve one’s speaking skill. Therefore, in my teaching career I will do my best to use it with my students.
